Back: The Czech royal crown (St. Wenceslas Crown) with cross surmounting, flanked by decorative elements and the coat of arms of the Czech Republic featuring the quartered shield with the Bohemian lion, Moravian eagle, and Silesian eagle. The story

Background & history

This note belongs to the first series of the independent Czech koruna, issued after the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia on January 1, 1993. The 1994 series replaced the provisional stamp-overprinted Czechoslovak notes. This 20 korun denomination featuring Přemysl Otakar I was designed by Oldřich Kulhánek and engraved by V. Fajt. The series was withdrawn and replaced by more secure designs beginning in the early 2000s, with this particular note demonetized in 2008.
