Where & when
What's on the note
Front: Sukarno (1901–1970), first president of Indonesia and leader of the Indonesian independence movement. A founding father of the Indonesian nation, he proclaimed independence in 1945 and served as president from 1945 to 1967, promoting nationalist, socialist, and anti-imperialist policies under his "Guided Democracy" system. This note features his portrait wearing the peci (traditional Indonesian cap) alongside his signature and the text "Gubernur Direktur" indicating the signatures of Bank Indonesia officials.
Back: Mount Krakatau (Anak Krakatau - "Child of Krakatau"), the volcanic island in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra. Anak Krakatau emerged from the caldera created by the catastrophic 1883 eruption of Krakatau, which was one of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic events in recorded history. The depiction shows the active volcano with its characteristic smoke plume, symbolizing Indonesia's volcanic geography as part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Background & history
This 25 sen note belongs to the Sukarno series issued by Bank Indonesia from 1964 to 1968, during the final years of Sukarno's presidency and a period of severe economic instability and hyperinflation. The inscription "PN Pertjetakan Kebajoran" indicates it was printed at the state printing works in Kebayoran (now Perum Peruri). The series was demonetized in 1968 following Sukarno's removal from power and the introduction of currency reforms under the New Order government of Suharto. These notes represent the end of the Old Order era in Indonesian history.
