The story

Background & history

First Rupiah series issued 1961–1964 by Bank Indonesia following monetary reforms. This series was part of the Old Rupiah (Rupiah Lama) and was later replaced in 1965 when Indonesia implemented a redenomination at 1,000:1, creating the New Rupiah (Rupiah Baru). The 1 Rupiah denomination was the lowest value note of this series. Printed by Thomas De La Rue in the UK, these notes featured agricultural themes emphasizing Indonesia's agrarian economy during the Sukarno era.
