The story

Background & history

Part of the 1986 Issue of Barbados dollars printed by De La Rue, this series was in circulation from 1986 until the introduction of polymer notes in 2013. The series featured portraits of prominent Barbadian figures and local landmarks, establishing a distinctly national iconography following independence in 1966. The $2 denomination honored John Redman Bovell, reflecting the critical importance of agricultural science to Barbados's sugar-based economy.
