Front: Ladi Kwali (c. 1925–1984), renowned Nigerian potter from the Gwari people (Kaduna State). She was the first woman in Nigeria to become internationally recognized for her ceramic artistry, combining traditional Gwari coil-building techniques with modern studio pottery methods. Her work is held in collections worldwide including the British Museum. She is depicted seated at work, shaping a decorated pottery vessel with traditional tools, wearing traditional headwrap and dress.
