Front: Bank of Sudan headquarters building in Khartoum. The Bank of Sudan is the central bank of Sudan, established in 1960 following independence. This modernist institutional building has served as the symbol of Sudan's monetary authority and appears on multiple denominations of Sudanese currency across different series.

Back: African elephants (Loxodonta africana) in their natural habitat. The African elephant is Sudan's national animal and an enduring symbol of the country's wildlife heritage, appearing frequently on Sudanese banknotes as a representation of natural wealth and biodiversity. The text 'NAPOLA BANKA' and 'GRBIJE' appear in Cyrillic-like script, along with 'NARODNA BANKA SRBIJE' (National Bank of Serbia).

The story

Background & history

This appears to be a mismatched pair of banknotes. The front displays 'BANK OF SUDAN' and 'One Sudanese Pound' with the Bank of Sudan building, consistent with Sudanese pound currency. The back, however, shows '10' denomination with text 'NARODNA BANKA SRBIJE' (National Bank of Serbia) and elephants, which is inconsistent with Serbian banknote designs (Serbia does not feature elephants on its currency). The back appears to be from a Serbian 10 dinar note but the imagery does not match documented Serbian note designs. Without being able to reconcile these two images as front and back of the same note, and given the clear denomination mismatch (1 vs 10) and issuer mismatch (Sudan vs Serbia), confidence in this being a genuine matched pair is extremely low.
