This is a transitional note from Venezuela's 2016 monetary reconversion, when the Bolívar Fuerte underwent redenomination by removing three zeros. Original 2000 Bolívares notes from earlier series were overprinted with '20' to circulate as 20 Bolívares. The back displays 'OCTUBRE-29-1979', the authorization date of the original 20 Bolívares design featuring Rafael Urdaneta, which was part of Venezuela's long-running series. The front was redesigned with wildlife imagery (the Harpy Eagle) as part of Venezuela's efforts to feature national natural heritage. Serial number A12055427 is visible on the back. This reconversion was short-lived; in 2018, Venezuela implemented another redenomination (removing five zeros) to create the Bolívar Soberano, demonetizing these notes. The hyperinflationary period of 2016–2018 saw Venezuela issue increasingly high denominations, making these overprinted transitional notes artifacts of extreme monetary instability.
