The story

Background & history

This note belongs to the second Cruzeiro series (1970–1986), issued during Brazil's military dictatorship period. The Cruzeiro was reinstated in 1970 (at a rate of 1 Cruzeiro = 1,000 Cruzeiros Novos) and circulated until monetary reform in 1986 replaced it with the Cruzado at 1,000:1 due to hyperinflation. The 100 Cruzeiros denomination was a mid-value note in this series, featuring consistent iconography celebrating Brazil's military and republican heritage.
