Front: Vuk Stefanović Karadžić (1787–1864), Serbian philologist, linguist, and major reformer of the Serbian language. He standardized modern Serbian Cyrillic orthography, collected epic folk poetry, compiled the first Serbian dictionary, and is considered the father of Serbian literature and language reform; his work laid the foundation for modern Serbian literary culture.

Back: Serbian coat of arms featuring the double-headed white eagle and the Serbian cross with four Cyrillic 'S' letters (representing 'Samo Sloga Srbina Spašava' – 'Only Unity Saves the Serbs'). The coat of arms has been a symbol of Serbian statehood since medieval times and was restored after independence.

The story

Background & history

This note belongs to the 2003-2011 issue series of Serbian dinars, introduced after the dissolution of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro in 2006, when Serbia became fully independent. The series replaced earlier Federal Republic of Yugoslavia notes and featured prominent Serbian cultural and scientific figures. The 10 dinar denomination was relatively low-value and commonly circulated. This series was gradually replaced starting in 2011 with updated designs featuring enhanced security features.
