Front

St. Anežka Česká (Agnes of Bohemia, c. 1211–1282), princess of the Přemyslid dynasty who founded a hospital and the Order of the Crusaders with the Red Star in Prague. She renounced royal marriage proposals to devote herself to religious life and caring for the poor; canonized in 1989, she is a patron saint of the Czech Republic. The denomination appears at left with a stylized heart motif representing her charitable works, and the text 'PADESÁT KORUN ČESKÝCH' (Fifty Czech Crowns) with issuer 'ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA' at center.

Back

The coat of arms of the Czech Republic, featuring four heraldic quarters: the Bohemian lion (upper left and lower right), the Moravian eagle (upper right), and the Silesian eagle (lower left). The geometric design incorporates stylized architectural elements and decorative patterns in Art Nouveau style. This design emphasizes the historical lands that compose the Czech Republic and was adopted in 1993 following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.

History

First koruna series issued by the newly independent Czech Republic following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia on January 1, 1993. The 50 korun note was dated 1993 and featured St. Anežka Česká, symbolizing the nation's spiritual heritage and commitment to humanitarian values. This series was replaced starting in 1994 with updated designs, and the 1993-dated notes were gradually withdrawn. Designer M. Ondráček created the engraved portrait; the series was produced by Státní tiskárna cenin (State Printing Works of Securities).
