Front
Přemysl Otakar I (c. 1155–1230), King of Bohemia from 1198 until his death, who secured the hereditary royal title for the Přemyslid dynasty and transformed Bohemia into a major Central European power. He obtained the Golden Bull of Sicily in 1212, making the Kingdom of Bohemia's sovereignty permanent within the Holy Roman Empire. Behind the portrait is the royal seal of Přemysl Otakar I showing him enthroned with regalia.
Back
The Crown of Saint Wenceslas (Czech Crown Jewels), created for Charles IV's coronation in 1347 and one of the oldest surviving royal crowns in Europe, shown alongside the coat of arms of the Czech Republic featuring the quartered arms with the Bohemian lion, Moravian eagle, and Silesian eagle. The crown symbolizes Czech statehood and is kept in Prague Castle's Crown Chamber.
History
This 20 koruna note belongs to the first series issued by the independent Czech Republic following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia on 1 January 1993. The 1993–1994 series replaced the Czechoslovak koruna and featured Czech historical rulers. These notes were gradually withdrawn starting in 2008 with the introduction of new security-enhanced designs. Designed by Oldřich Kulhánek and printed by the State Printing Works of Securities in Prague.
