Front
Scene depicting Egyptian women in traditional dress representing cultural heritage. The note shows three women in traditional Egyptian garments, symbolizing Egyptian society and cultural continuity during the Kingdom period. This design was part of Egypt's currency issues during World War II and the early 1940s, featuring domestic cultural motifs rather than royal portraits.
Back
Geometric patterns and ornamental designs incorporating arabesque motifs. The reverse displays intricate guilloché work with circular rosettes at left and right, with denomination '10 PIASTRES' prominently featured at center along with English text reading 'THE ARAB REPUBLIC OF EGYPT CURRENCY NOTE' and 'MINISTER OF FINANCE' below.
History
This 10 piastres note belongs to the 1940 Issue series of Egyptian currency notes, produced during World War II when Egypt was still a kingdom under British influence. The Currency Note Issue was managed by the Ministry of Finance rather than a central bank (the Central Bank of Egypt was not established until 1961). This series circulated during the wartime economy and the transitional period before the 1952 revolution. The note features reference code 'B/48' indicating issue series and signature control. Serial number format with Arabic-Indic numerals was standard for Egyptian notes of this period.
