Back
Cenderawasih or Bird-of-Paradise (Paradisaea species), an iconic bird native to the Indonesian region of Papua (formerly Irian Jaya). This bird is one of Indonesia's most celebrated wildlife symbols, known for its spectacular plumage and elaborate courtship displays. The species has deep cultural significance to indigenous Papuan peoples and represents Indonesia's extraordinary biodiversity. The denomination '100 SERATUS RUPIAH' appears prominently with 'BANK INDONESIA' header and signatures of the Gubernur (Governor) and Direktur dated 1964.
History
This 100 rupiah note belongs to the 1964 issue of Bank Indonesia currency, issued during the presidency of Sukarno and a period of significant economic instability. The denomination markings show '25' on the front (part of a series numbering convention) corresponding to 100 rupiah actual value. This series was in circulation during Indonesia's period of hyperinflation in the mid-1960s and was replaced by the 1968 currency reform following Sukarno's fall from power. The note features Radius Prawiro as Direktur, who later became a prominent economist and Finance Minister. The series is characterized by wildlife themes celebrating Indonesia's natural heritage.
