Front
Bendungan Tangga Asahan (Asahan Cascading Dam) in North Sumatra, a hydroelectric power project that was one of Indonesia's major infrastructure developments in the post-independence era. The dam represents the nation's efforts toward industrialization and energy self-sufficiency. The front includes anti-counterfeiting text warning against forgery or possession of counterfeit currency.
Back
Rice farmer at work in a paddy field, representing Indonesia's agricultural foundation and the vital role of farmers in the nation's economy. The design honors the working class and symbolizes the country's commitment to rural development and food security in the early years of independence under President Sukarno.
History
This note is part of the 1958 Workers Series (Seri Pekerja), issued by Bank Indonesia during the Guided Democracy period under President Sukarno. The series emphasized themes of labor, agriculture, and infrastructure development as symbols of the young nation's progress. Printed domestically by Pertjetakan Kebajoran (Kebajoran Press), these notes circulated until they were replaced during the 1965 currency reform that addressed inflation. The 100 rupiah denomination was a mid-range value in everyday commerce during this period.
