Front

Anak Gunung Krakatau (Child of Krakatau), the volcanic island that emerged in the Sunda Strait beginning in 1927 from the caldera created by the catastrophic 1883 eruption of Krakatau. The depiction shows the active volcanic cone with characteristic smoke plume; Krakatau remains one of Indonesia's most monitored volcanoes. The front features intricate guilloche patterns and the serial number EDC160606 appears twice.

Back

A traditional Pinisi sailing vessel, the iconic two-masted wooden sailing ship of the Bugis and Makassar people of South Sulawesi. These seafaring vessels, featuring distinctive seven to eight sails in a gaff-ketch configuration, have been used for inter-island trade throughout the Indonesian archipelago for centuries and represent Indonesia's rich maritime heritage. The back also displays the Garuda Pancasila emblem and text 'SERATUS RUPIAH' (One Hundred Rupiah).

History

This note belongs to the 1992 series of Indonesian rupiah banknotes issued by Bank Indonesia during the New Order era under President Suharto. The 1992 series was issued through the 1990s and represents a period of relative economic stability before the 1997 Asian financial crisis. The 100 rupiah denomination of this series was eventually demonetized in 2008 as part of Indonesia's currency rationalization program. This series emphasized Indonesia's natural heritage, with the 100 rupiah note featuring the volcanic landscape of Krakatau and traditional maritime culture.
