Front
Mohammad Hoesni Thamrin (1894–1941), Indonesian nationalist and political leader from Batavia (Jakarta). He served as a member of the Volksraad (People's Council) during the Dutch colonial period and was a prominent advocate for Indonesian independence and social welfare; he is remembered as a national hero who fought for the rights of native Indonesians and opposed colonial discrimination.
Back
Tari Tumbu Tanah, a traditional warrior dance from Nias Island in North Sumatra, performed by dancers in elaborate ceremonial attire. This dance celebrates bravery and is part of Nias cultural heritage, typically performed at important ceremonies and festivals; it represents the indigenous cultures of Indonesia's diverse archipelago.
History
This note belongs to the Emission 2016 series issued by Bank Indonesia, Indonesia's first polymer banknote series. Introduced in December 2016 to replace the 2009 paper series, these notes feature enhanced security features including transparent polymer windows, holograms, and colour-shifting ink. The series depicts Indonesian national heroes on the obverse and traditional dances and cultural scenes on the reverse, celebrating the nation's independence struggle and cultural diversity. The polymer substrate provides greater durability and resistance to counterfeiting.
