Front

The front features large Arabic numerals for the denomination 5000 (٥٠٠٠) and text reading 'Masrif Lubnan' (مصرف لبنان, Bank of Lebanon) in ornate calligraphy. The Cedar of Lebanon, the national symbol appearing on the country's flag, is prominently featured at lower left. The design incorporates geometric patterns and microprinting typical of Lebanese banknotes of this era, with arabesque decorative elements throughout. This series represents Lebanon's post-civil-war currency stabilization period.

Back

The reverse displays 'BANQUE DU LIBAN' in French at the top and 'CINQ MILLE LIVRES' (Five Thousand Livres) at the bottom, with denomination 5000 at corners. The center features a geometric interlaced square pattern in Islamic architectural style, overlaid with colored squares in blue and orange hues. The Cedar of Lebanon appears again at left. The serial number is printed at lower right (A013453581). This bilingual design reflects Lebanon's French colonial legacy and Arabic cultural heritage.

History

This 5000 Livres note belongs to the 1990s series issued by Banque du Liban during Lebanon's reconstruction period following the 1975–1990 civil war. The Lebanese Pound (Livre) had experienced severe inflation during the conflict, and this high-denomination note reflects the post-war economic conditions. The series maintained traditional Lebanese motifs including the Cedar of Lebanon, the nation's most enduring symbol, which has appeared on Lebanese currency since the French Mandate period. These notes were gradually replaced by updated designs in the early 2000s with enhanced security features.
