Front
Traditional Macedonian folk scene depicting dancers in national costume at left, representing the cultural heritage of the newly independent Republic of Macedonia. This inaugural 1992 denar series was issued following Macedonia's independence from Yugoslavia in 1991, featuring cultural motifs to establish national identity. The Cyrillic text reads 'Народна Банка на Македонија' (National Bank of Macedonia) and 'ДЕСЕТ' (ten). The date 'СКОПЈЕ 1992 ГОДИНА' (Skopje 1992) appears at upper left.
Back
Abstract geometric design featuring triangular patterns in pink, yellow, and purple tones with the text 'ДЕСЕТ ДЕНАРИ' (ten denari). The date 'СКОПЈЕ, ЈАНУАРИ 2008 ГОДИНА' (Skopje, January 2008) appears at lower left, indicating a later printing or reissue date within the series, though the design dates to 1992. The back displays 'НАРОДНА БАНКА НА РЕПУБЛИКА МАКЕДОНИЈА' (National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia) along the bottom edge.
History
This is the first 10 denar note of the Republic of Macedonia, issued in 1992 as part of the inaugural currency series following independence from Yugoslavia in September 1991. The denar replaced the Yugoslav dinar at par. The front bears the series date '1992', while the back shows 'ЈАНУАРИ 2008 ГОДИНА' (January 2008), suggesting this specific note was printed in 2008 as part of a later printing run of the 1992 design series, which remained in use until the second denar was introduced in May 1993 at a rate of 1 new denar = 100 old denari due to hyperinflation. This first series is characterized by cultural and folk motifs emphasizing Macedonian national identity. The note is commonly available and was demonetized following the 1993 currency reform.
