Front

The Banca Guratali ta' Ghawdex (Bank of Gozo) building on the left and the Banca Guratali ta' L-Imdina (Bank of Mdina) building on the right, two historic banking institutions of Malta. The inscription commemorates the date 20 June 1428, when the Maltese and Gozitans received the Diploma tal-Ħelsien (Charter of Liberties) from King Alfonso V of Aragon, a foundational document in Maltese constitutional history granting self-governance rights.

Back

José María Morelos y Pavón (1765–1815), Mexican Roman Catholic priest and revolutionary leader who led the Mexican War of Independence after the death of Miguel Hidalgo. The 'SUD' emblem shown is the insurgent emblem he used during the independence movement. Morelos is regarded as one of Mexico's greatest national heroes for his military campaigns and his convening of the Congress of Chilpancingo which declared Mexican independence.

History

MISMATCHED PAIR: The front image is a Malta 2 Liri note from the Central Bank of Malta (Bank Ċentrali ta' Malta), part of the third series issued from 1994, featuring historic Maltese banking buildings. The back image is a Mexico 50 Pesos polymer note from Banco de México, Series C dated 7 September 2005, featuring José María Morelos. These are two completely different banknotes from different countries and cannot be catalogued as a single item.
