Front
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (1920–1975), founding father and first President of Bangladesh, known as Bangabandhu ('Friend of Bengal'). He led the Bengali nationalist movement, declared independence from Pakistan in 1971, and served as the nation's leader during its formation; he remains the most revered figure in Bangladeshi history. The note also depicts the National Monument (Jatiyo Smriti Soudho) in the background, commemorating the martyrs of the Liberation War.
Back
The National Martyrs' Memorial (Jatiyo Smriti Soudho) at Savar, near Dhaka, designed by architect Syed Mainul Hossain and inaugurated in 1982. This iconic monument consists of seven isosceles triangular pyramid-shaped structures representing the seven stages of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, with a red sun motif symbolizing the bloodshed and sacrifice of the martyrs. The date '2022' marks the year of issue in the Golden Jubilee series.
History
This 2 taka note was issued in 2022 as part of Bangladesh's commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of independence (50 years since 1971). The series honors Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and features updated security elements. Bangladesh Bank continues to issue this denomination as part of the current circulating currency, with the 2022 series representing a modernized design for the nation's half-century milestone.
