Front

Mongolian horses (Takhi) grazing in traditional steppe landscape with mountains in background. The Mongolian horse is one of the oldest and purest horse breeds, central to Mongolian nomadic culture for millennia, revered as a symbol of freedom and national identity. These semi-wild horses are hardy, compact animals adapted to Mongolia's harsh climate and remain integral to the pastoral economy and cultural heritage.

Back

Öndör Gegeen Zanabazar (1635–1723), first Jebtsundamba Khutuktu of Mongolia, revered spiritual leader, sculptor, architect, and scholar. He was a key figure in Mongolian Buddhism, created the Soyombo script and the Mongolian national seal, and is considered one of Mongolia's greatest cultural icons. His portrait wears traditional Buddhist religious headwear. The state emblem of Mongolia (Soyombo symbol) appears at center, flanked by traditional Mongolian script.

History

This 20 tögrög note is part of Mongolia's modern banknote series issued in 2020, continuing the country's tradition of depicting national cultural and natural heritage. The note features the year '2020' printed at lower left on the front. Mongolia transitioned to a market economy in the 1990s following the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the tögrög has remained its currency since 1925 (with a brief interruption 1924–1925). The Bank of Mongolia (Mongolbank) issues all national currency. Serial number format appears to follow standard Mongolian conventions with alphanumeric prefix.
