Sir Frank Mortimer Maglinne Worrell (1924–1967), Barbadian cricketer and Jamaican senator, one of the most celebrated West Indies cricket captains. He was the first black captain of the West Indies cricket team and revolutionized Caribbean cricket; he died young at 42 from leukemia and was honoured with a memorial service at Westminster Abbey. The note features the national coat of arms showing the Barbados Trident emblem with the motto 'Pride and Industry', along with the Governor's signature.

History

This note is from the Central Bank of Barbados series issued from 1973 following the establishment of the Central Bank in 1972, replacing the earlier Barclays Bank and Royal Bank of Canada private issues. The paper series featuring Sir Frank Worrell was withdrawn in 2013 when Barbados transitioned to polymer banknotes. Sir Frank Worrell was chosen as a national hero representing both sporting excellence and leadership; he was one of the famous 'three Ws' of West Indies cricket alongside Everton Weekes and Clyde Walcott.
