Front
Mieszko I (c. 930–992), the first historical ruler of Poland and founder of the Piast dynasty. He united the Polish tribes and adopted Christianity in 966, which brought Poland into the community of Western European nations. The note features a stylized circular design element representing medieval decorative motifs. This denomination was part of Poland's currency stabilization following the transition from communism to democracy.
Back
Silver denar coin of Mieszko I from the late 10th century, one of the earliest Polish coins. The coin design includes the inscription 'MISICO' around the edge, identifying the ruler. This reverse celebrates Poland's medieval heritage and the beginning of Polish coinage under the first Christian ruler of Poland.
History
This 10 złotych note belongs to the 1994 series issued by the National Bank of Poland on March 25, 1994, as printed on the note. This series marked Poland's currency reform during the transition period following the fall of communism. The 1994 series featured historical Polish rulers and was printed by Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych (PWPW - Polish Security Printing Works). These notes were withdrawn from circulation and demonetized on December 31, 2004, when Poland introduced a redesigned banknote series with enhanced security features. The P-143a reference indicates this is the first signature variant of the 1994 10 złotych design. The serial number 'IB 2526530' follows the standard format with two-letter prefix.
