Front
Traditional Burundian drummer in ceremonial dress performing on a royal drum (karyenda). The drummer represents the sacred drumming tradition central to Burundian culture and history; the royal drums were symbols of power in the Kingdom of Burundi and remain important cultural emblems. The karyenda drums were traditionally used for royal ceremonies and continue to be featured in the famous Tambourinaires du Burundi performances, representing national heritage and unity.
Back
National coat of arms of Burundi at center, featuring a shield with a lion's head, three spears, and the national motto 'Unité - Travail - Progrès' (Unity - Work - Progress). The emblem is surrounded by decorative guilloche patterns and includes the motto in both French and Kirundi ('Ubumwe - Ibikorwa - Amajambere'). The coat of arms was adopted at independence in 1962 and symbolizes the nation's sovereignty and values.
