Front

The Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric dam on the Yenisei River in Siberia, one of the largest hydroelectric power stations in Russia. This 124-meter high dam was completed in 1972 and represents Soviet-era industrial achievement. The note displays text in Russian (ДЕСЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ, 'ten rubles') with the date 1997, though this appears to be a mismatched pair as the front shows a Russian 10-ruble note while the back shows a Rwandan 100-franc note.

Back

Traditional Rwandan agricultural scene depicting farmers plowing fields with cattle (likely Ankole-Watusi cattle, known for their distinctive long horns), representing Rwanda's predominantly agricultural economy. The coat of arms of Rwanda appears at right, featuring a sun, sorghum, and coffee plant within circular frames. The date 01-09-2003 indicates the signature date. Text appears in French and English: 'BANQUE NATIONALE DU RWANDA / NATIONAL BANK OF RWANDA' and 'Payables à vue - Payable at sight' with denomination 'CENT FRANCS ONE HUNDRED FRANCS'.

History

This is part of the 1997-2003 series of Rwandan francs issued by the National Bank of Rwanda following the post-genocide reconstruction period. The franc has been Rwanda's currency since 1964, replacing the Rwanda and Burundi franc after the dissolution of the currency union. The 100-franc denomination was a mid-range note in circulation during this period. The agricultural imagery reflects Rwanda's economy, which remains heavily dependent on subsistence agriculture. The signatures correspond to bank officials serving in 2003. NOTE: The front image appears to show a Russian 10-ruble note from 1997 featuring the Krasnoyarsk dam, which does NOT match this Rwandan 100-franc note shown on the back. This represents a mismatched pair.
