The Bank of Sudan headquarters building in Khartoum, the central bank's main office constructed in the mid-20th century as the institutional seat of Sudan's monetary authority. The building represents the modern banking infrastructure established after Sudan's independence in 1956. The front features intricate geometric Islamic patterns and decorative motifs characteristic of Sudanese design, with the denomination '25' prominently displayed in the corners and 'Twenty-five Piastres' inscribed at bottom.

History

This 25 piastre note belongs to the first series of Sudanese pounds issued by the Bank of Sudan following the redenomination in 1987. The Sudanese pound had been the country's currency since independence in 1956, with 100 piastres = 1 pound. This series was issued during the period 1987–1992, before the currency was replaced by the Sudanese dinar in 1992 (at 1 dinar = 10 pounds) during economic reforms. The note was demonetized in 1992 when the dinar was introduced. The design emphasizes Sudan's agricultural economy, particularly cotton production which dominated exports, and the institutional authority of the central bank. Pick P-37 is well-documented and commonly available to collectors.
