Front
King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) (1927–2016), the ninth monarch of Thailand from the Chakri dynasty, who reigned from 1946 until his death in 2016, making him the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history. He is revered for his development projects and is deeply honoured on Thai currency throughout his reign.
Back
Equestrian statue of King Taksin the Great (1734–1782), who liberated Siam from Burmese occupation after the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767 and established Thonburi as the new capital. The statue, located in Thonburi, Bangkok, depicts him mounted on horseback with sword raised, commemorating his role as a military leader and founder of the Thonburi Kingdom (1767–1782). Taksin is honoured as one of the great warrior kings in Thai history.
History
This note belongs to the twelfth series of Thai baht banknotes issued by the Bank of Thailand during the reign of King Rama IX, circulated from 1985 to 1996. The series features King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the obverse across all denominations. The 50 baht note specifically depicts the equestrian statue of King Taksin on the reverse, honoring this 18th-century warrior king who reunified Siam. The series was eventually replaced by the thirteenth series in 1996-1997. These notes were printed on cotton-based paper with traditional security features including watermarks, security threads, and fine intaglio printing. The twelfth series is no longer legal tender but remains widely collected.
