History

This 100,000 Turkish lira note belongs to the Seventh Emission Group (1970–1997), issued under Law No. 1211 of January 14, 1970 as printed on the note itself. The note was introduced during a period of chronic inflation in Turkey that necessitated increasingly high denominations throughout the 1970s–1990s. By the 1990s, Turkey experienced hyperinflation that led to six-digit denominations becoming commonplace. The 100,000 lira note was withdrawn from circulation and demonetized on December 31, 2005, when Turkey implemented a currency reform that removed six zeros from the lira, replacing 1,000,000 old lira with 1 new Turkish lira (YTL). The Seventh Emission remained legal tender for decades but became obsolete as the Turkish economy stabilized post-2000. Atatürk has been featured on every Turkish banknote series since the founding of the republic, reflecting his enduring status as the nation's founding father.
