Front

The Mausoleo del Libertador Simón Bolívar (Pantheon of the Liberator) in Caracas, Venezuela, the final resting place of Simón Bolívar (1783–1830), Venezuelan military and political leader who led the independence movements of Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Panama from Spanish colonial rule. The mausoleum, located in the National Pantheon of Venezuela, is one of the most important national monuments. Bolívar is among the most revered figures in Latin American history and appears on virtually all Venezuelan currency.

Back

Simón Bolívar (1783–1830), El Libertador, Venezuelan military and political leader who played a key role in the independence of six South American countries from Spanish rule. Known as the George Washington of South America, he led revolutionary campaigns across the continent and is honoured throughout Latin America. His vision of a united Latin America and his military genius made him one of history's most significant independence leaders. This portrait appears on nearly all Venezuelan banknotes as the nation's founding father.

History

This 10,000 Bolívares note belongs to the 2016–2018 Bolívar Fuerte series issued during Venezuela's escalating hyperinflation crisis. The date '18 DE AGOSTO DE 2016' appears on the back, indicating the legal decree date for this issue. This was one of the highest denominations issued in the Bolívar Fuerte currency before the 2018 monetary conversion to Bolívar Soberano (which removed five zeros). The note was legal tender for only about two years before demonetization. During this period, Venezuela experienced one of the worst hyperinflation episodes in modern history, rendering high-denomination notes nearly worthless within months of issue. The serial number A15476236 follows the standard Venezuelan format. The text 'PRIMER VICEPRIMER VICY' (partially visible) refers to legal provisions. Despite being a recent issue, these notes are now obsolete and serve primarily as historical artifacts of Venezuela's economic crisis.
