Front

African elephant (Loxodonta africana), the largest land mammal, depicted at center with trunk raised. Elephants are a significant part of Zimbabwe's wildlife heritage and tourism economy, with major populations in Hwange National Park and along the Zambezi Valley. The note features the Zimbabwe Bird at left, the national emblem derived from soapstone sculptures found at Great Zimbabwe ruins. The design emphasizes Zimbabwe's natural heritage following the hyperinflation era and currency reforms of the 2000s–2010s.

Back

The Balancing Rocks (Chiremba Balancing Rocks), one of Zimbabwe's most iconic geological formations located in Epworth, near Harare. These granite boulder formations, created by millions of years of erosion, are balanced in seemingly precarious arrangements and have become a national symbol, previously appearing on Zimbabwean currency and featured prominently in the country's geological and tourism identity. The back design also incorporates the Zimbabwe Bird emblem at upper right.

History

This note belongs to Zimbabwe's Fourth Dollar (ZWL) series, reintroduced in June 2019 after a decade-long suspension of the national currency following catastrophic hyperinflation (2007–2009) that peaked at 89.7 sextillion percent. During the interim period (2009–2019), Zimbabwe used a multi-currency system dominated by US dollars, South African rand, and other foreign currencies, then Bond notes and RTGS dollars. The date 'HARARE 2020' printed on the back indicates this specific note was issued in 2020 as part of the currency stabilization efforts under Governor John Mangudya's tenure (2014–present). The serial number prefix 'AC' represents the block/series identifier for this print run. The Fourth Dollar has struggled with renewed inflation but remains legal tender as of 2024.
