Front
Princess Isabel of Brazil (1846–1921), daughter of Emperor Pedro II and heir presumptive to the Brazilian throne. She served as regent three times and is best remembered for signing the Lei Áurea (Golden Law) on May 13, 1888, which abolished slavery in Brazil. She is honoured on this note for her role in one of Brazil's most significant social reforms.
Back
Agricultural workers with harvest scene depicting rural labour and agricultural production. The scene shows workers gathering crops and produce in baskets, representing Brazil's agrarian economy and the importance of agricultural labour to the nation's development during the Cruzeiro period.
History
This 200 Cruzeiros note belongs to the third Cruzeiro series (1970–1986), issued during a period of high inflation in Brazil. The Cruzeiro was replaced by the Cruzado in 1986 at a rate of 1000:1 as part of the Plano Cruzado economic reform. The series featured important historical figures from Brazilian history and scenes representing different economic sectors.
