The text 'ZAGREB 20. SVIBNJA 1941' dates the issue to May 20, 1941, shortly after the establishment of the NDH. The inscription 'MINISTAR NARODNOG GOSPODARSTVA' indicates issuance by the Minister of National Economy.

Background & history
🎉 Commemorating Establishment of the Independent State of Croatia (Nezavisna Država Hrvatska).
This 1000 Kuna note was issued by the Independent State of Croatia (Nezavisna Država Hrvatska, NDH), a puppet state established by the Axis powers in April 1941 following the invasion of Yugoslavia. The NDH introduced the Kuna as its currency, reviving a historical Croatian monetary unit. These notes circulated from 1941 until the collapse of the NDH in May 1945, when Yugoslavia was reunified and the Yugoslav Dinar was restored. The series is historically significant but controversial due to the regime that issued it. Notes from this period are collected primarily for their historical interest and are relatively scarce today.
