Where & when
What's on the note
Front: Ruđer Josip Bošković (1711–1787), Croatian Jesuit priest, physicist, astronomer, mathematician, philosopher, diplomat, poet, and polymath. One of the most prominent scientists of his time, he made fundamental contributions to physics with his atomic theory, worked in astronomy and geodesy, and is celebrated as a key figure of Croatian science. His dates appear as '17.III-1787' on the note. Geometric designs incorporating mathematical diagrams and astronomical symbols reference his scientific achievements.
Back: Zagreb Cathedral (Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary), the tallest building in Croatia and a landmark of Zagreb. Originally constructed in the 13th century, it was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style after the 1880 earthquake. The twin spires are depicted at center, with architectural details showing the cathedral's distinctive Gothic Revival façade designed by Hermann Bollé.

Background & history
First Dinar series of independent Croatia, issued 1991–1994 following Croatia's declaration of independence from Yugoslavia. The Croatian Dinar replaced the Yugoslav Dinar at par and was intended as a transitional currency during the Croatian War of Independence. This series featured Croatian cultural and scientific figures. Hyperinflation led to its replacement by the Croatian Kuna on 30 May 1994. The 1 Dinar was the lowest denomination of this series.
