Background & history
This note is part of the 1961 Series issued by Bank Indonesia following the establishment of the republic. The series featured occupational and agricultural themes highlighting Indonesia's economic sectors. The fractional denomination of 2½ rupiah reflects the inflationary pressures of the early 1960s under Sukarno's Guided Economy period. These notes were withdrawn and replaced by the 1964 series as Indonesia underwent significant monetary reforms. The 1961 series is notable for its emphasis on labor and productivity themes rather than political figures.
