Front: The State Bank of Pakistan building in Karachi on the 1 Rupee note. The State Bank building, headquarters of Pakistan's central bank, is a landmark of modernist architecture in Karachi, designed and built in the mid-20th century. The front of the 1 Rupee note shows this institutional building with Islamic geometric ornamental borders, representing the authority and stability of Pakistan's monetary system.

Back: Muhammad Ali Jinnah (1876–1948), founder of Pakistan and its first Governor-General, appears on the 10 Rupees note back. Jinnah, known as Quaid-e-Azam (Great Leader), was a lawyer and politician who led the All-India Muslim League and the Pakistan Movement, successfully achieving the creation of Pakistan as an independent nation in 1947. His portrait appears on virtually all denominations of Pakistani currency as the founding father of the nation.

The story

Background & history

This image shows two different Pakistani banknotes photographed together: the front of a 1 Rupee note and the back of a 10 Rupees note dated 2023. The 1 Rupee note is among the smallest denominations in Pakistani currency and features the State Bank headquarters building. The 10 Rupees note bears Jinnah's portrait, continuing Pakistan's long tradition of honoring its founder on currency. The serial number CEQ2569199 is visible on the 10 Rupees note. Pakistani banknotes have undergone multiple series changes since independence in 1947, with modern issues featuring enhanced security features and updated designs while retaining traditional iconography.
