This note belongs to Slovenia's first Tolar series, issued in 1990 as the Republic of Slovenia (then still part of Yugoslavia) prepared for independence. The Slovenian Tolar (SIT) was officially introduced on October 8, 1991, replacing the Yugoslav Dinar at par. This early transitional series predates full independence and was issued by the Secretariat for Finance rather than a central bank. The series circulated from 1990 until being replaced by later Bank of Slovenia issues in 1992. The Tolar itself was demonetized on January 1, 2007, when Slovenia adopted the Euro, becoming the first former Yugoslav republic to join the Eurozone. The serial number format 'AJ 2456105 J' is typical of this series. These low-denomination transitional notes are readily available to collectors but hold historical significance as artifacts of Slovenia's peaceful independence process.
