What's on the note
Front: Agricultural and industrial workers depicted in a scene celebrating Syria's productive economy. The composition shows workers with cotton plants, symbolizing Syria's important cotton industry, alongside industrial buildings representing manufacturing. The scene emphasizes the unity of agricultural and industrial labor, reflecting the Ba'athist economic ideology of the Syrian Arab Republic during this period.
Back: Damascus Opera House (Dar al-Assad lil-Funun, also known as Assad House for the Arts), a major cultural center in Damascus opened in 2004. The building represents Syria's investment in cultural infrastructure and modern architecture. The opera house was designed to host symphonic concerts, ballet, opera, and other performing arts, serving as a symbol of Syria's cultural ambitions before and during the civil war period.

Background & history
This 500 Syrian pound note belongs to the series introduced in 2013 by the Central Bank of Syria (مصرف سورية المركزي). The note was issued during the Syrian Civil War, which began in 2011, during a period of severe economic disruption and hyperinflation. The visible date on the back is 1434 AH (Hijri calendar) corresponding to 2013 CE. The serial number format shows prefix 'B/01' followed by '9510969'. The series continued the pre-war design themes celebrating Syria's agricultural and industrial sectors while featuring prominent Damascus landmarks. Despite the ongoing conflict, these notes remained in circulation as legal tender. The denomination of 500 pounds, once significant, lost considerable purchasing power due to war-related inflation.
