Front: Victoria Falls, one of the world's largest waterfalls located on the Zambezi River at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The falls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major symbol of Zimbabwe's natural heritage, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya ('The Smoke That Thunders'). The front features tropical vegetation including palm trees and other indigenous flora native to the falls region.

Back: African elephants (Loxodonta africana) in their natural habitat with acacia trees, representing Zimbabwe's rich wildlife heritage. The elephant is the largest living land animal and a keystone species in African ecosystems; Zimbabwe is home to significant elephant populations in national parks such as Hwange. The denomination '2' visible on the back indicates this is a mismatched pair, as the front shows a 5 dollar note.

The story

Background & history

This note belongs to the short-lived RTGS Dollar series introduced in February 2019 when Zimbabwe formally abandoned its multi-currency system and reintroduced a domestic currency. The RTGS Dollar (Real-Time Gross Settlement Dollar) was the transitional currency that replaced bond notes at par. The printer 'HARARE 2019' indicates local printing. This series was replaced in June 2019 when the RTGS Dollar was redenominated and renamed the Zimbabwe Dollar (ZWL), ending the legal tender status of these notes after only four months of circulation. The series represents Zimbabwe's attempt to stabilize its economy after years of hyperinflation and dollarization. Serial prefix 'AD' is consistent with documented prefix ranges for the 2019 RTGS series.
