Front
Přemysl Otakar I (c. 1155–1230), King of Bohemia from 1198 to 1230, who secured the hereditary nature of the Bohemian throne and obtained the Golden Bull of Sicily (1212) from Emperor Frederick II, making Bohemia a kingdom within the Holy Roman Empire. He is depicted alongside the royal seal of Přemysl Otakar I showing the seated king, along with decorative heraldic elements. The note bears the text 'DVACET KORUN ČESKÝCH' (Twenty Czech Korunas) and 'ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA' (Czech National Bank), with year 1994.
Back
The Czech royal crown (St. Wenceslas Crown) with cross surmounting, flanked by decorative elements and the coat of arms of the Czech Republic featuring the quartered shield with the Bohemian lion, Moravian eagle, and Silesian eagle. The crown was made for Charles IV in 1346 and is used at coronations of Czech kings and queens. The inscription reads 'PADĚLÁNÍ BANKOVEK SE TRESTÁ PODLE ZÁKONA' (Counterfeiting banknotes is punishable by law).
History
This note belongs to the first series of the independent Czech koruna, issued after the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia on January 1, 1993. The 1994 series replaced the provisional stamp-overprinted Czechoslovak notes. This 20 korun denomination featuring Přemysl Otakar I was designed by Oldřich Kulhánek and engraved by V. Fajt. The series was withdrawn and replaced by more secure designs beginning in the early 2000s, with this particular note demonetized in 2008.
