Front
Female rubber tapper collecting latex from a rubber tree, representing Indonesia's important rubber industry. The figure wears traditional dress and is shown in the act of harvesting natural rubber, one of Indonesia's major export commodities in the post-independence era. This occupational portrait emphasizes the role of agriculture and primary industries in the young nation's economy.
Back
Female agricultural worker in traditional dress standing in a farm setting with vegetation, symbolizing Indonesia's agricultural foundation. The scene depicts rural farming activities central to Indonesian society and economy during the early years of independence, with text reading 'MENJAGA KEUANGAN' (maintaining finances) above the year 1961.
History
This note is part of the 1961 Series issued by Bank Indonesia following the establishment of the republic. The series featured occupational and agricultural themes highlighting Indonesia's economic sectors. The fractional denomination of 2½ rupiah reflects the inflationary pressures of the early 1960s under Sukarno's Guided Economy period. These notes were withdrawn and replaced by the 1964 series as Indonesia underwent significant monetary reforms. The 1961 series is notable for its emphasis on labor and productivity themes rather than political figures.
