Front
The National Martyrs' Memorial (Jatiyo Smriti Soudho) at Savar, near Dhaka, commemorating those who died in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. Designed by architect Mainul Hossain and inaugurated in 1982, the monument consists of seven isosceles triangular planes rising to a height of 45 meters, symbolizing the seven stages of the national movement. The note also features the national flower, white water lily (shapla), and a decorative deer motif at lower left.
Back
The Oriental magpie-robin (Copsychus saularis), the national bird of Bangladesh, perched on a branch. This black and white passerine bird is common throughout the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, known for its melodious song. The bird was declared the national bird of Bangladesh in 1971 and appears on multiple denominations of Bangladeshi currency.
History
This 2 taka note is part of the 2000 series of Bangladesh Bank banknotes, which introduced updated designs following the country's economic development. The series features the national emblem, the National Martyrs' Memorial, and various wildlife and cultural motifs celebrating Bangladeshi independence and identity. The 2004 date indicates a printing within this ongoing series. These low-denomination notes remain in active circulation for daily transactions throughout Bangladesh.
