Front

Suzmania lingualis flower (wild banana relative) dominates the design at center, accompanied by modern architectural elements including the Centrale Bank building at left. The note features indigenous geometric patterns and insects. The denomination '10' appears at left, while 'TIEN GULDEN' is printed at lower right. This is part of the Millennium Series issued by the Central Bank of Suriname to mark the year 2000, celebrating Surinamese biodiversity and modernization.

Back

Couroupita guianensis (cannonball tree flower) dominates the center of this 25 gulden reverse, one of Suriname's most spectacular native flowering trees. A bee and hummingbird appear alongside the flower, representing pollinators essential to the rainforest ecosystem. Indigenous geometric patterns in blue, orange, and red appear at right. The denomination '25' appears at left, with 'VIJF EN TWINTIG GULDEN' at lower right. Both sides celebrate Suriname's unique tropical biodiversity and cultural heritage.

History

This is a highly unusual double-denomination note from Suriname's Millennium Series (2000), with 10 gulden printed on the front and 25 gulden on the reverse. The series was issued by the Centrale Bank van Suriname to commemorate the year 2000 and celebrate the nation's natural heritage, featuring native flowers, fauna, and architectural landmarks. The Surinamese guilder (gulden) was replaced by the Surinamese dollar on January 1, 2004, at a rate of 1 dollar = 1000 guilders, making this series the final guilder issue. The note text includes 'NADRUK VERBODEN - SURINAAMS WETBOEK VAN STRAFRECHT - ARTIKEL 200' (reproduction forbidden under Surinamese Penal Code Article 200). The dual-denomination format is exceptionally rare in modern banknote design and reflects experimental approaches during the transition period before currency reform.
